Calvin was born on November 28, 1946, in Fargo, North Dakota. He lived a life marked by humor and deep love for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a loyal friend others could always count on.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Beverly Sue Kelley; his children, Kelley Rae Brock and her wife, Sherri Shreiber; Robert William Brock and his wife, Sandra Osgood; and Andrew Michael Brock and his wife, Tabetha Rachal. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Remington, Barrett, Kendrick, Kelden, Daisy, Grayson, Aidan, Jonah, and Annabel. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude Eckert, and his father, Jackson Brock.

In 1974, he became a Certified Public Accountant in Yuma, Arizona, and faithfully served his community through his own practice until his retirement in 2014.
He was known for his strong work ethic, his desire for knowledge, and playing way too much Pokémon. He loved spending time outdoors with family and friends. Whether hiking the Grand Canyon, working late into the night during tax season, or insisting on visiting just one more Pokémon stop, he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in the hope of reunion with Calvin at that last Pokémon stop in the sky. His love, wisdom, and lessons will remain with us always.

Obituary for Daniel Charles Svec (from Wharton Funeral Home webpage)
Daniel Charles Svec, 79, of East Bernard passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family on Tuesday July 8, 2025, at a Sugarland hospital. He was born on September 10, 1945, in East Bernard, Texas to the late August and Mildred Svec.
Daniel was raised in the Hungerford area and attended Hungerford schools and later graduated from East Bernard High School in 1964. Following high school Daniel was drafted in the Army at the age of 19 where he did active service in the Vietnam War. Upon his return he married Charlene Tydlacka on November 25, 1967, in Wharton. They made their home in the Hungerford area where they raised their only daughter, Dana. He spent his earlier years working at W-K-M in Missouri City.
Daniel enjoyed participating in hunting trips with friends, going to turkey shoots, playing dominoes, and participating in cookoff competitions. He was a dedicated fan of the Houston Oilers, frequently attending games as a season ticket holder. He continued his support with the Houston Texans, often taking his family to the games and enjoying early Sunday morning tailgating activities. He would attend many events, particularly washer tournaments, where he would support his grandson and son-in-law. Daniel was always excited for his family trips down to Louisiana to play his favorite card games at the casino. He enjoyed polka music and had a special talent for playing his accordion.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 57 years, Charlene Svec, daughter, Dana Orsak and husband Bernard, sister Shirley Krpec and husband Bennie. Grandchildren Cameron Orsak, Carissa Pesl and husband Joseph, along with numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Daniel was a lifelong member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford. He was a member of American Legion Post 226 of East Bernard for many years and later became a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1069 in El Campo.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025, starting at 10 a.m. with a rosary recited at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 11 a.m. with Father Charles Dwomoh officiating. A Rite of Burial and Committal will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Hungerford.
Thank you all for the continuous love and support we have received during this time. Those we love don’t go away; they will walk beside us every day.
Above photo shows Daniel wearing his VVA Chapter 1069 cap. The picture was taken for a chapter Bio & Photo Booklet project that Daniel participated in. The additional photos and captions (his own words) below were included in his booklet, and show Daniel during his tour in Vietnam.
Military Background
Above photo was taken in 1967 in Vietnam. Daniel had just returned from a mission and as he says, he was pretty dirty. That’s his APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) in the background. He also states... for you younger Vietnam Veterans out there, note that my rifle is an M14, not an M16!
The above photo shows the type of sand bag bunker Daniel and his crew we would setup, with their APC parked right next to it. This was actually a new style of field bunker structure in Vietnam, in the early 1966 time frame. However because of the on board fire power, Daniel and his crew would then pull night guard duty from the APC parked next to the bunker.
Above photo shows Daniel sitting on top of his APC (Armored Personnel Carrier), which was also a ‘tracked’ vehicle. The APC was introduced into the Vietnam War in the early 1960s. There were two initial models, the M113 and the M114, the former proving over time, to be the better vehicle.
Daniel's Personal Vietnam Experience
I took my physical while still a Senior in High School. Soon after graduation, I was drafted.
I took my Basic and AIT training at Fort Polk, Louisiana – what a wonderful vacation resort that
place was! When arriving in Vietnam, I was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division, serving as an
Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) driver and M-60 machine gunner. It was our responsibility to
perform various tasks, such as going out on search & destroy missions, providing protection for
convoys, and providing protection for engineers building & clearing roads, etc. One of the more
interesting times I remember when driving my APC was when we had to cross a large river. We were
told that the APCs were amphibious vehicles, but this was the first time I actually put the APC
to the test – and thankfully I discovered that APCs really do float.
Above photo shows Daniel (circled in red) and other VVA Chapter 1069 members attending & participating in "Tribute to Vietnam Veterans" program, hosted by the "Daughters of the American Revolution" (DAR) "Comfort Wood" Chapter, of Wharton County, held on August 11, 2016, at the Wharton County Historical Museum, located in Wharton, TX. Note tht Daniel is proudly wearing his VVA Chapter 1069 member's vest.
We will miss you Daniel... May you rest in peace.

Kenneth was a very proud Marine who served his country as a helicopter mechanic and gunner during the Vietnam War. After returning home from the Marines, he worked in the oilfield until he retired. Kenneth loved his family more than anything. He never met a stranger, and he loved picking on his loved ones. He was always a jokester and kept everyone entertained. He loved being outdoors and taking care of his cows. He was very proud of his longhorns. He loved going on mule rides with his dogs. If you couldn't find him on his four wheel mule, he was at his grandkid's events. He was a very proud PoPo. "Butchie's" legacy will live on forever. |
For the next 13 months, which was the normal military tour of duty in Vietnam for the Marines
at that time, the H-34 helicopter was Kenneth's home away from home. He was crew chief, door gunner and mechanic on
the H-34 helicopter, and flew missions daily. See photo below - Kenneth on the right.
His tour went as follows. He first arrived in Da Nang in 1967 and was stationed there approximately 6 months at
the Marble Mountain Marines helicopter base. While there, his crew would fly to-from Chu Lai, a sea port city,
supporting the Korean Marines, who Kenneth says, were tough fighting solders! Flying back & forth off the deck
of the USS Iwo Jima (stationed off the coast of Vietnam) into and out of the DMZ or as they called it, "The Zone",
for a 3 month troop deployment mission. He was then stationed at Hue/Phu Bai (Hue City). Various missions included;
Force Recon, troop Insertion and Extraction, troop re-supply, and 24-hr Medevac duty on every-4-day rotations.
Kenneth and his HMM-363 crew also flew numerous missions during the Tet Offensive in 1968. Kenneth and his H-34
helicopter (see above photo) crew were shot down and crashed multiple times during his 13 month tour. After one
so termed "soft crash", Kenneth and his crew counted over 50 bullet holes in their H-34 aircraft. Plus, one of
the 'jugs' on the H-34's radial engine was destroyed, but the helicopter still flew far enough to get them to safety.
After returning from Vietnam, Kenneth was sent to Marine Corp Air Station (MCAS), El Toro Field, located in Anaheim,
CA, where he was finally discharged from the Marines in 1969. It's very obvious that Kenneth did fly in the H-34 a
lot during his tour in Nam - he was awarded 10 Air Medals upon his discharge.
